Purchasing and Inventory Coordinator
Location: Northwest Metro Minneapolis Area
Schedule: Full-Time | 1st Shift
Salary: $60,000-$70,000
We are seeking a detail-oriented Buyer / Materials Planner to support a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position plays a key role in ensuring production has the materials, supplies, and outside services needed to meet customer demands while maintaining accurate inventory levels and efficient material flow.
The ideal candidate will have experience in purchasing, inventory control, materials planning, or supply chain operations within a manufacturing setting.
Responsibilities
- Purchase consumable materials, chemicals, production supplies, and outside services to support manufacturing operations
- Monitor inventory levels and maintain appropriate stock to meet production requirements
- Manage vendor-managed inventory (VMI) programs and consigned inventory
- Coordinate material planning activities to ensure timely availability of production materials
- Receive and process incoming materials, supplies, and vendor shipments
- Enter receipts, packing slips, certifications, and inventory transactions into the ERP system
- Monitor shelf-life and expiration dates for applicable materials and chemicals
- Perform cycle counts and assist with month-end and year-end physical inventories
- Maintain accurate inventory records and investigate inventory discrepancies
- Coordinate scrap recycling, material returns, and outside service transactions
- Work closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Operations teams to support customer delivery requirements
- Maintain organized warehouse and inventory storage areas utilizing FIFO inventory practices
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, efficiency, inventory accuracy, and waste reduction
- Participate in Lean manufacturing and workplace organization activities
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in purchasing, materials planning, inventory control, receiving, or supply chain operations
- Manufacturing experience strongly preferred
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and inventory transactions
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of inventory control practices, cycle counting, and material planning concepts
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, FIFO inventory management, or continuous improvement principles is a plus
