KeyStaff Professionals is partnering with a dynamic, growing construction firm that is expanding their team and adding a Project Construction Cost Accountant to manage the financial aspects of multiple construction projects, ensuring accurate and timely cost and revenue reporting. This role serves as a key liaison between project teams and the accounting department, helping to monitor performance, resolve issues, and provide insights through detailed reports and analysis. Job Summary
- Maintain and update project information in the ERP system ensuring budgets reflect changes from supplemental agreements, change orders, or other modifications
- Review and track project costs, including vendor payments and charges for labor, equipment, and materials
- Process monthly revenue schedules from customers, allocate payments between general contractors and subcontractors, and manage subcontractor payments
- Work with Project Managers to process and verify payment vouchers, cash flow projections, and project estimates. Prepare variance analyses to understand project performance
- Monitor and reconcile retainages receivable from customers and payable to subcontractors
- Adjust expected job margins as needed and prepare the monthly job schedule. This includes managing accounts for costs in excess of billings and billings in excess of costs
- Create and distribute weekly, monthly, and annual job cost reports for management and project teams, including variance and performance analyses
- Compile trucking usage data and submit required compliance reports to MNDOT
- Manage administrative tasks to close construction contracts, ensuring compliance with documentation and reporting requirements
- Coordinate with project teams to collect outstanding retainages and finalize contracts
- Process miscellaneous billings and assist with other tasks as needed to support the team
Job Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business
- 5+ years of experience in accounting, particularly in managing construction project costs and revenue, including retainages, revenue recognition, and subcontractor management
- Skilled in MS Excel and Outlook; ERP experience (Vista Viewpoint preferred)
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to analyze and organize complex financial information
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to collaborate with diverse teams across the organization
- Dependable, adaptable, and team-oriented with a proactive attitude
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite and ERP Systems
- Experience in preparing compliance reports and handling project close-outs in the construction industry
