Cost Accountant

KeyStaff Professionals is seeking an experienced Cost Accountant for a growing manufacturing company in the Houston, TX area. This role is responsible for providing accurate product costing information to support financial reporting, collaborating with manufacturing and distribution teams, and ensuring adherence to GAAP principles.

Job Summary

  • Analyze and research costs related to raw materials, labor, inventory, and production.
  • Compare standard costs to actual production costs and update standard costs as needed.
  • Maintain and audit Bills of Materials (BOMs) to ensure all costs are captured accurately
  • Investigate changes to BOMs and assess impacts on margins
  • Coordinate with inventory teams to ensure cycle count accuracy and investigate variances
  • Post inventory transactions to the general ledger and perform reconciliations
  • Conduct monthly labor and freight cost analysis and post general journal entries
  • Support balance sheet reconciliations and annual audits
  • Perform additional finance or accounting tasks as assigned

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3+ years of recent cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and GAAP
  • Advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Power Query, formulas)
  • Hands-on ERP experience (SAP, JDE, Oracle, IQMS, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; self-motivated with minimal supervision
